Respiratory Protection Safety Overview
An estimated 5 million workers are required to wear respirators in 1.3 million workplaces throughout the United States. Respirators protect workers against insufficient oxygen environments, harmful dusts, fogs, smokes, mists, gases, vapors, and sprays. These respiratory hazards may cause cancer, lung impairment, other diseases, or death. Respiratory safety practices and proper us of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential to maintaining lung health and precautions must be taken by both employers and employees when working in hazardous environments with insufficient oxygen and or dust and spray hazards.
